Paatal Lok Review

An average story can be made interesting by a good storytelling effort and some fabulous acting. This is true for this series also. The story is a blend of a 2007 film “Manorama Six Feet Under ” and the story of Tahelka fame Tarun Tejpal’s self-proclaimed assassination attempt. The story is nothing more than a pulp fiction story.

In recent times there is an interesting trend in web series to take references from Hindu mythology and draw parallelism of the story with mythology. The same efforts are visible in this series too but don’t seem to be relevant or connected. The references to mythological characters like Hrinyakashyapu or Eklavya and Panchatantra story of a Dog and Indra looks like a deliberate effort and doesn’t fit in the story well.

Director’s overwhelming effort to make realistic cinema hindered a good attempt at storytelling. Director must have taken a copybook approach for direction instead of unnecessary innovation.

POSITIVES

An effort of good storytelling where all rules are followed from the book of storytelling. Fabulous acting by starcast.

NEGATIVES

In an attempt to show it closer to reality, some of the sequences in this series look clumsy and disgusting. These sequences doest contribute much to the storyline but are just added to raise reality quotient.

WHO SHOULD WATCH THIS

Anybody who is a fan of good storytelling, good acting, and realistic cinema.

WHO SHOULDN'T WATCH THIS

One who is looking for a fresh story and looking for a gamechanging climax.
